We woke up on the rock hard mattress hoping that the breakfast would make up for it. The breakfast was… was… not worth it. Beyond the toast, nothing was warm. The only real protein choice was hard-boiled eggs (chilled, of course). This, combined with the laziness of leaving the car in a post-hike state, made for an extra-cranky Lara.
Once we got on the road, the only way to soothe the Cranky Lara was food. We found a restaurant in Whitefish, MT called LouLa’s Cafe. They had a fabulous breakfast burrito. Life was good again.
We resumed our travels. Our plan was to go up to Canada to see it and, mostly, avoid Idaho. (FYI – if you have injuries, the border agents will ask about it). We drove through beautiful British Columbia, seeing the Western edge of the Canadian Rockies. We stopped in Creston, BC and got coffee at Buffalo Trails Coffee House. I’d highly recommend it. We then met up with the Columbia River and came down to the U.S.

We drove past FDR Lake, which was scenic (also, despite it’s namesake, it’s a standing body of water – get it, FDR’s legs don’t work! I guess this lake didn’t get Poolio). We got to Okanogan, checked in to an historic motel, the Cariboo Inn (which is cute – first look, Okanogan isn’t all that cute though), and got victory pizza from Hometown Pizza in neighboring Omak, WA (super tasty, 5/5 would eat again and again and again… until I explode becoming a super pizza nova).
Lara is cranky now/again, but hopefully a night’s rest will help. Tomorrow: possibly a day hike in North Cascades to Thornton Lake and possibly some car camping.
