Well, so, we made plans, and they fell through, but… It isn’t all bad, right?
We got up a little late, had a late breakfast (Big Mama’s Burritos in Wheat Ridge are delicious) and started packing up slowly. This process took way too long. Our goal was to be on the road by noon… we left at 3:30. Our plan was to stop in Des Moines, IA… that’s a bit too far.
We set off with Lara driving and got stuck in traffic. Once we cleared the Denver metro area, things went a bit faster, but… We had to put some bags on the top of the car, and the tarp didn’t want to stay down. We had to stop and fix it. Around Julesberg, CO, we switched and I drove.
It was dark, and the tarp was flapping more than before. We stopped a couple of times to try to fix it. Eventually, we got it semi-secured, and we left, going very slowly. Around 10, we got to the hotel in… Kearney, NE (about 4 hours shy of Des Moines), and settled in.
Tomorrow, we’ll hopefully get an early start, fix the flapping tarp, and make it to Chicago.
